My PMP Success Story- Tonderayi Nyatsambo

     88227 views

My PMP journey started in January 2020. The idea of getting certified was quite distant but when I joined Ceridian, it did not look so distant. Kedar Sathe, one of the Project Managers at Ceridian sent out an email asking if anyone would be interested in getting PMP certified. I was excited about this opportunity. I discussed it with my wife and agreed that it was an opportunity not to be missed. The PMP training was facilitated by ProThoughts and Ashish Sadekar took us through the training. At this moment, I would like to thank Ashish for being such an amazing trainer. He explained the concepts well and the tips he gave were top notch. The training was like a workshop where I got to learn and apply the knowledge in the most intuitive way possible. Coming from a technical background, I found Ashish’s approach quite engaging and insightful. When I was preparing for the exam, I could hear his voice explain the concept I was trying to grasp. He kept us engaged and he would use real life scenarios which made it very easy to understand and grasp the concepts.

My journey to PMP Certification was not easy. It had its own challenges. With training done and dusted, the next step was to apply. ProThoughts provided a template and a guideline on how to apply. I followed this to the letter, and I got in touch with Ashish for assistance. He was helpful and resourceful as always. It took me a good 3 to 4 weeks to document and submit my application. I initially scheduled my exam for July 2020 but due to Covid 19, the Centre I had registered with was closed at the time. I thought of sitting for the exam at home, but I was not sure the internet would behave. I was forced to reschedule my pmp exam to a later date. This affected me but I remembered what Ashish had said during training, “Do not over study”. I was ready to sit for the exam in July but now I had to reschedule. I decided to stop reading and start applying what I had grasped and understood in my work. This is the whole point of acquiring knowledge. What you do not use you lose. Putting the concepts into practice was surely the best way I could keep the PMP knowledge at my fingertips.

The exam date was drawing close and it was coinciding with a hectic end of year and end of quarter. The pressure of work got the better of me and I had to reschedule. This really got me frustrated as I wanted to sit for the exam before the syllabus changed. I realized that I may need to read up on agile as I was fighting a lost battle. The agile part was amazing, and I understood it from a developer’s perspective. The time to sit for the exam came but before that, we had to go into another lockdown. It seemed as though everything was conspiring against me sitting for the PMP exam but on the weekend the lockdown was lifted. I went to sit for my exam on Monday the 3rd of May and I passed the exam in my first sitting. The journey to being PMP certified has been exciting, rewarding and satisfying despite the frustrations I encountered along the way. A huge thank you to ProThoughts for the study material and to Ashish Sadekar for the excellent training. I learnt a lot during the training sessions and I am still making use of the concepts you clearly unpacked.
