Here’s a PgMP Success Story by Yogesh Sharma

Proud to Share My PgMP Certification Journey

Hello everyone,

I’m pleased to share that I have successfully earned the PMI Program Management Professional (PgMP®) certification.

This is an important milestone in my professional journey. The PgMP is one of PMI’s most advanced and respected certifications for experienced program managers, and only a relatively small number of professionals worldwide hold this credential. The journey was both demanding and enriching, and it has significantly strengthened my perspective on strategic program management and value-driven execution.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Ashish (ProThoughts) and Vineet for their continuous guidance, encouragement, and support throughout this journey. From refining my application to sharing valuable preparation strategies and insights, their mentorship played a key role in helping me achieve this milestone.

For colleagues who may be considering the PgMP certification, I would like to share a few key learnings from my experience:

1 – Build a strong application

The PgMP application goes beyond documenting experience—it must clearly reflect a program management mindset, strategic thinking, and leadership across initiatives. A thorough review before submission was extremely helpful in strengthening my application.

2 – Maintain consistency in preparation

I found that steady, focused preparation of around 1–2 hours daily over 6–8 weeks was far more effective than intermittent study. Planning the exam soon after completing training, it also helped maintain momentum and focus.

3 – Strengthen fundamentals

A careful read of the Program Management Standard and a deep understanding of the latest PgMP Exam Content Outline (ECO) provided the foundation needed to approach the exam confidently.

4 – Focus on the Program Life Cycle

A significant portion of the exam is rooted in program lifecycle concepts and situational judgment, making it essential to understand how programs evolve from initiation to benefits realization.

5 – Practice extensively

The comprehensive study material provided by ProThoughts, especially the 1000+ mock exam questions, was invaluable. These mock exams closely mirrored the actual exam and helped me identify knowledge gaps, strengthen decision-making, and build the confidence and endurance required for answering 170 situational questions in four hours.

A key insight from this journey is that most questions are rooted in real-world program management scenarios, so consistently reflecting on your own program experiences is critical to approaching the exam effectively.

Beyond the certification, this journey has reinforced my commitment to continuous learning, strategic thinking, and delivering meaningful business outcomes through effective program leadership.

If anyone is considering the PgMP certification or would like to discuss the application or preparation approach, I’d be happy to share my experience. Please feel free to reach out.
