What are the Project Management Knowledge Domains?

     11425 views

The guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK guide) found the following 10 Project Management Knowledge Areas as the base of the project management process. The PMP Certification training provided by ProThoughts solutions follows the PMBOK guide to train their customers and students. The Project Management knowledge Domains are further explained below

1) Project integration management: The fundamental plans of developing a project charter and assigning the project manager are included in project integration management. The project management plan is then developed as a roadmap for the project. After the stakeholders have approved the project plan, it is monitored and tracked using Project Management software such as Project Manager through a changelog.

2) Project time management: Project time management is the process in which the project tasks are divided as per dates and budget. Throughout the project, their timetables and budgets change. Project time management divides work and assigns responsibilities to certain people. The sequencing of these jobs is then set, as are the requirements.

3) Project cost management: Project cost management involves the monetary aspect of the project making sure the project has sufficient funds. When estimating the cost of the task, various aspects such as the labor, material, etc. are considered. Once this is determined, steps are taken to control the cost

4) Project quality management: The desired quality of the product/service is the main objective when it comes to delivering a successful project. Plan quality management monitors the overall quality of the product or service to ensure that all quality standards are met.

5) Project scope management: Project scope management encompasses all project-related tasks. Defining the scope aids in the product/service needs. To avoid errors, the scope should be double-checked with the sponsor or stakeholder. The scope statement is frequently updated to meet the needs of stakeholders and sponsors.

6) Project human resource management: As the team always stands as the most important aspect, it is necessary that it stays happy and content. Their progress should be continuously tracked so that the project stays on the timeline and the team works in a happy and composed environment

7) Project communications management: Even though all areas are equally important under project management, communication happens to be the most important one. This is because it covers every aspect of the project.

8) Project risk management: This involves making plans that will help in managing the risk. Based on the reports and plans, the risks are sorted in terms of priority, and further planning is done on how to mitigate or avoid the risks. This is done with the help of qualitative and quantitative analysis

9) Project procurement management: This involves outside procurement. Planning procurement management starts by identifying the outside needs of the project and how the contractors will be involved

10) Project stakeholder management: As the project is created for the stakeholders, they must stay happy. Therefore, they must be involved in certain decisions. Here the stakeholders are listed and prioritized according to the concerns and how they might impact the project.

These Project Management Domains are the most important factors which need to be studied and updated regularly to keep the project running and hence making continuous progress till it reaches the completion phase.
