I am Rajeev Bhatia a Mechanical Engineer having 29+ Years of experience in the Engineering & Construction Industry , Joined Construction Giant L&T (Larsen & Toubro Limited) way back in 1991 as Project Trainee and served them for 20+ Years in various Projects across the Globe. In 2015 , moved to Reliance Industries Limited- Mega Refinery & Petrochemical at Jamnagar. Currently with Linde Engineering India – Corporate Office at Vadodara
Why PMP Certification ?:
During my entire journey I did try to go for PMP Certification , but due to Professional Commitment & Projects deliverables couldn’t find time to focus on the same. In 2019 when I have joined Linde Engineering India at Vadodara got an opportunity to serve from office thought of getting certified PMP.
Although , I have served as Project Manager ,Construction Manager role in L&T and Reliance and well versed with the nitty-gritty of all the process from conceptual until commissioning of the Mega Plants but don’t posses the Certificate or Certified Project Manager Professional credentials.
PMP certification was to gain a comprehensive approach as PM. Hoping PMP certification will definitely help me to fast-track it.
I have applied for the PDU’s training in Oct – 2019. Training got accomplished in Nov-2019.
I started preparation from Jan-2020 after my application got approved in the last week of Dec-2019.
I have planned to attempt the exam in the Month of April-2020.
Up to Feb-2020 every thing was on track , suddenly In the first week of March-2020 , I have been assigned to a Project in USA which was to start in the May- 2020 and we have to complete our deliverables latest by Mid-April-2020.
Due to Professional Commitment and responsibility of deliverables , I have to devote more time with my team members and from Last week of March-2020 due to Covid-19 , Pandemic everything got derailed due to sudden closure of all the offices on account of Lockdown
We have to start working on “WFH” mode and day to day meetings & commitment have further delayed my plan of attempting the PMP exam
Finally , I have scheduled the same in the month of Dec- 2020 , but unfortunately couldn’t succeed
Again planned the next attempt in Jan-2021 , fortunate enough to attain success ( even though changes in Domain Areas).
Studied PMBOK & Rita twice along with all the notes & suggestions provided by Mr. Saurabh & Mr. Arvind Nahata , many thanks to both of them for mentoring.
During week days studied two to three hours a day and on weekends five to six hours.
After completing both the books attempted Mock Test provided by Prothoughts & other sources as well.
Sincere request to all the future aspirants to go for Mock Test , once you are done with full course.
Mock test results review is MUST , all the gaps need to be filled. The more you attempt mock-test , will gain confidence and know-how the trends as well.
One must attempt full four hours test to gain the experience of sitting continuously , will provide you strength
Suggestion , if one can afford to get Prepcast Simulation by Cornelius Fichtner – seven mock ups , can be shared with other aspirants to save money.
Prior to your scheduled exam , two weeks shall be dedicated to mock-up test , at least three to four full four mock-test is MUST.
Few tips for the new exam. Be ready with multiple questions on hybrid, agile , predictive approaches. There are agile questions but not ALL.One need to understand the relationships in between Agile , Hybrid & Predictive approaches , how and when to use them. They will try to switch your ideas with different approaches.
No direct questions on ITTO’s
There will be multiple options and ask you to match with the explanation on the right column. We need to be fast on answering the same.
One need to select more than one options , answer need to be selected with two correct options and few will have three correct options.
Overall question reduced to 180 in place of 200. After 60 question first break and second break after 120 question.
Sharing my experience just that it might be helpful for future PMP aspirants.
Once again many thanks to Mr. Saurabh & Mr. Arvind.
